{"id":1853,"date":"2016-05-18T15:51:52","date_gmt":"2016-05-18T21:51:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.natsci.colostate.edu\/cnsit\/?p=1853"},"modified":"2022-04-25T14:58:54","modified_gmt":"2022-04-25T20:58:54","slug":"mac-error-pangea-is-damaged-and-cant-be-opened","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/mac-error-pangea-is-damaged-and-cant-be-opened\/","title":{"rendered":"Misleading Mac Error: &#8220;Pangea is damaged and can&#8217;t be opened.&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>UPDATE for Max OS X 10.12 &#8220;Sierra&#8221; and newer!<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Apple has removed the &#8220;Anywhere&#8221; option from the security options described below.&nbsp; So, we need to open up the Terminal App (this is found in the Applications-&gt;Utilities folder) in order to re-enable this.&nbsp; Once the Terminal App is opened, run the following command:&nbsp; You will need to put in your account password to complete this command.<\/p>\n<pre><code>sudo spctl --master-disable\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>Since Yosemite, if you download our Pangea Connection app for the Mac, you may get the following error message when you try to launch it:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1854\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/pangea_trash.jpg\" alt=\"pangea_trash\" width=\"420\" height=\"153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/pangea_trash.jpg 420w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/pangea_trash-300x109.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is a false description of the actual problem.&nbsp; The real reason for this message is that the default security settings for running downloaded apps on Yosemite and newer (10.10+) need to be adjusted.&nbsp; Basically, all you need to do is to open up the &#8220;Security &amp; Privacy&#8221; settings in System Preferences.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Mac0-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1855\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Mac0-2-300x250.png\" alt=\"Mac0-2\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Mac0-2-300x250.png 300w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Mac0-2.png 505w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nOnce you are in there, you can make sure you are viewing the &#8220;General&#8221; tab and choose the &#8220;Anywhere&#8221; item in the list at the bottom as shown (You may need to unlock the settings by clicking on the golden lock icon, and authenticating as a local admin for the machine).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/app_settings.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1856\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/app_settings-300x243.jpg\" alt=\"app_settings\" width=\"300\" height=\"243\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/app_settings-300x243.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/app_settings.jpg 668w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once you choose those settings, the Pangea app should work like a charm!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UPDATE for Max OS X 10.12 &#8220;Sierra&#8221; and newer!
