{"id":1884,"date":"2016-08-15T13:24:02","date_gmt":"2016-08-15T19:24:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.natsci.colostate.edu\/cnsit\/?p=1884"},"modified":"2026-08-19T08:47:54","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T14:47:54","slug":"cnsit-south-graduate-student-orientation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/cnsit-south-graduate-student-orientation\/","title":{"rendered":"CNSIT South Graduate Student Orientation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Your CSU NetID Account<\/h3>\n<p>Your CSU NetID is your university wide username.\u00a0 This, in combination with your CSU password, is what you will use to gain access to almost all resources you have access to.<\/p>\n<h3>CSU VPN and DUO 2-Factor Authentication<\/h3>\n<p>Access to most services will now require the use of 2-Factor authentication.\u00a0 Immediately after you establish your CSU NetID you should be sure to enroll a device with DUO as your second factor authentication source and set up your devices (laptops\/phones\/etc.) for use with the CSU VPN.\u00a0 Establishing a CSU VPN connection is required for off campus access to many resources including department servers, CSU library resources, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Set up your DUO using the information from this page: <a href=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/duo-best-practice\">https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/duo-best-practice<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Set up your devices to use the CSU VPN: <a href=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/csu-vpn-duo\">https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/csu-vpn-duo<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Microsoft 365 (M365)<\/h3>\n<p>M365 also comes with a few other cool bits.\u00a0 First, Microsoft Office, the actual client installed software, can be downloaded and installed on up to 5 personally owned computers per account.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft OneDrive is also available.\u00a0 Check out this URL for more information: <a href=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/cloud-storage-for-personal-data\">https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/cloud-storage-for-personal-data<\/a><\/p>\n<p>All M365 services can be found using the portal at <a href=\"https:\/\/m365.cloud.microsoft\/apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/m365.cloud.microsoft\/apps<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Your E-mail Account (M365)<\/h3>\n<p>Your CSU inbox is where mail sent to your CSU e-mail address is delivered.\u00a0 There are many aliases for this e-mail address, but all are delivered into a single e-mail inbox.\u00a0 One such alias is your First.Last@colostate.edu.<br \/>\nYou can edit the first name portion of this alias at <a href=\"https:\/\/netid.colostate.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/netid.colostate.edu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>All new graduate students now receive an M365 account.\u00a0 This has a modest 5GB quota for each email and OneDrive. Natively, these can be accessed using the online portal <a href=\"https:\/\/m365.cloud.microsoft\/apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/m365.cloud.microsoft\/apps<\/a>. NOTE: You must log in with your username in the following format to all M365 services NetID@colostate.edu.\u00a0 You can also set up a laptop or mobile device using directions found on the following page:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/it.colostate.edu\/m365-apps-and-csu-software\">https:\/\/it.colostate.edu\/m365-apps-and-csu-software<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can also set up a forward from your CSU M365 e-mail to some other address using the Settings in the M365 web portal at <a href=\"https:\/\/outlook.office.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/outlook.office.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Your Personal Computer<\/h3>\n<p>You should check out the following page on the status of any software licensing deals that are available:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/what-software-site-licenses-are-available\">https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/what-software-site-licenses-are-available<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>CSU-NET Wifi Access<\/h3>\n<p>You can access Wireless on campus from almost everywhere.\u00a0 When looking for wifi, please only select the \u2018csu-net\u2019 SSID.\u00a0 This will take your CSU NetID as authentication.\u00a0 You can find more information about CSU-NET here: <a href=\"https:\/\/it.colostate.edu\/wireless\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/it.colostate.edu\/wireless<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>AI at CSU<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ai.colostate.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/ai.colostate.edu<\/a> &#8211; All information related to news and progress on governance and tools will be posted here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CoPilot Chat<\/strong> &#8211; (<a href=\"https:\/\/m365.cloud.microsoft\/chat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/m365.cloud.microsoft\/chat<\/a>) &#8211; When logged in using your CSU M365 credentials, data is covered by CSU\u2019s enterprise agreement with Microsoft, these tools follow CSU\u2019s data protection standards. Inputs and outputs are not used to train public AI models, and Microsoft enforces strong access controls, encryption, and compliance requirements.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #339966;\"><em>Just look for the green shield in the top right!<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nCSUGPT<\/strong> &#8211; (<a href=\"https:\/\/chat.colostate.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/chat.colostate.edu<\/a>) &#8211; CSU\u2019s AI assistant, designed to support students, faculty, and staff with helpful, CSU-aligned guidance on writing, planning, questions, and everyday tasks. It is built to be secure, privacy-conscious, and aligned with CSU\u2019s data privacy and ethical AI standards, while encouraging users to verify important information with official sources.<\/p>\n<h3>Other CSU Systems and Acronyms<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Canvas<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/canvas.colostate.edu\">https:\/\/canvas.colostate.edu<\/a>) \u2013 This is CSU\u2019s implementation of Course Management Technology.\u00a0 A web based learning management tool for posting class content.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RAMWeb<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/ramweb.colostate.edu\">https:\/\/ramweb.colostate.edu<\/a>) \u2013 A student web portal which provides online access to application status, registration, financial information, personal records, jobs, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AriesWeb<\/strong> \u2013 (<a href=\"https:\/\/ariesweb.colostate.edu\">https:\/\/ariesweb.colostate.edu<\/a>) \u2013 Web based tool for instructors, etc. to post grades.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AAR<\/strong> \u2013 (<a href=\"https:\/\/aar.is.colostate.edu\">https:\/\/aar.is.colostate.edu<\/a>) \u2013 This stands for the Administrative Access and Resources \u2013 provides access to administrative applications supported by the Division of Information Technology (<a href=\"https:\/\/it.colostate.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/it.colostate.edu\/\">DoIT<\/a>) and campus partners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kuali<\/strong> \u2013 This is the university\u2019s purchasing gateway tool used for procuring products through online vendor punchouts.\u00a0 You access Kuali through the CAP.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Workday @ CSU<\/strong> &#8211; (<a href=\"https:\/\/workday.csusystem.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/workday.csusystem.edu<\/a>) &#8211; Workday is a simple, accessible, and secure cloud-based system. It manages HR, Payroll, Recruiting, and Talent\/Performance data, offering faster, more reliable access.
