While these directions are still technical doable, permissions on RStor can now be more easily managed using Grouper (<a href=\"https:\/\/grouper.colostate.edu\">https:\/\/grouper.colostate.edu<\/a>) &#8211; Please review these directions before proceeding: <a href=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/manage-rstor-group-access-with-grouper\">https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/manage-rstor-group-access-with-grouper<\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the great things about the RStor service, is the ability for a share owner to administer the permissions without CNSIT assistance!\u00a0 To manage the permissions in RStor you will need to have access to a Windows computer where you have connected to your RStor share (for connection instructions, see here: <a href=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/rstor-how-to\">https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/rstor-how-to<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>If you do not have any access to a Windows computer, then you will still need to contact CNSIT for permission changes.\u00a0 You can do so by creating a CNSIT Ticket at <a href=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/help\">https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/help<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you are unsure what RStor is or how to request a space, check out the following: <a href=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/rstor-has-arrived\">https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/rstor-has-arrived<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Adding a new user and modifying permissions<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When adding a user to your RStor group, you must first open the share in an Explorer window.\u00a0 From here, right click in some of the empty space and choose the &#8220;Properties&#8221; button as shown in the following screenshot. \u00a0Alternatively, you can navigate to the Home tab within your Explorer window, and select the &#8216;Properties&#8217; option:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2499 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RStor_Properties.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"752\" height=\"692\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RStor_Properties.png 752w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RStor_Properties-300x276.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 752px) 100vw, 752px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You will then see the following dialog window appear.\u00a0 This displays the current permissions of the base share folder.\u00a0 Your folder will also contain the owner&#8217;s eName.\u00a0 If you select a given user\/group, you will see their effective permissions in the lower portion of the dialog.\u00a0 To add a new user, you will first click on the &#8220;Edit&#8221; button.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2496\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RStor_Add_User.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"363\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RStor_Add_User.jpg 363w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RStor_Add_User-242x300.jpg 242w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 363px) 100vw, 363px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now, you need to type in the name of the user you wish to grant permissions to.\u00a0 When typing in these eNames, be sure include &#8220;COLOSTATE\\&#8221; before the eName as shown.\u00a0 Once entered, you can click the &#8220;OK&#8221; button.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2497\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RStor_Choose_User.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"457\" height=\"251\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RStor_Choose_User.jpg 457w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RStor_Choose_User-300x165.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 457px) 100vw, 457px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You will now be able to set the permissions for this user (or any user in this view).\u00a0 First, select the user in the list to enable that user&#8217;s permission checkbox list as shown below.\u00a0 You can be creative in how you are setting these permissions.\u00a0 Use the following definitions to help set the appropriate level for a given user.\u00a0 Keep in mind, these permissions are for the current folder\/file only.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Full Control<\/strong> allows you to read, write, modify, and execute files in the folder, change attributes, permissions, and take ownership of the folder or files within.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Modify<\/strong> allows you to read, write, modify, and execute files in the folder, and change attributes of the folder or files within.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read &amp; execute<\/strong> will allow you to display the folder\u2019s contents and display the data, attributes, owner, and permissions for files within the folder, and run files within the folder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>List folder contents<\/strong> will allow you to display the folder\u2019s contents and display the data, attributes, owner, and permissions for files within the folder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read<\/strong> will allow you to display the file\u2019s data, attributes, owner, and permissions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Write<\/strong> will allow you to write data to the file, append to the file, and read or change its attributes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2501\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RStor_Set_Perms.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"363\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RStor_Set_Perms.jpg 363w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RStor_Set_Perms-242x300.jpg 242w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 363px) 100vw, 363px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From here, you can click the &#8220;Apply&#8221;
