{"id":2703,"date":"2018-12-18T11:43:25","date_gmt":"2018-12-18T18:43:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.natsci.colostate.edu\/cnsit\/?p=2703"},"modified":"2022-04-25T14:41:12","modified_gmt":"2022-04-25T20:41:12","slug":"fix-for-when-outlook-hangs-when-setting-up-new-account","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/fix-for-when-outlook-hangs-when-setting-up-new-account\/","title":{"rendered":"Fix for when Outlook hangs when setting up new account"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Occasionally, we run into a specific issue when a user is setting up a new machine, and wants to configure Outlook to read their CSU O365 e-mail and calendar data.\u00a0 While following the ACNS supplied directions (<a href=\"http:\/\/help.mail.colostate.edu\/tt_o365_outlook.aspx\">http:\/\/help.mail.colostate.edu\/tt_o365_outlook.aspx<\/a>) the dialog will seem to hang (indefinitely) on searching for the account.\u00a0 We are seeing this behavior when the following conditions are true:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The computer being set up is running a Windows OS<\/li>\n<li>The computer being set up is connected to an on campus network<\/li>\n<li>The version of Outlook is 2016<\/li>\n<li>The computer is not bound to a CSU domain, and relies on a local account to log in (not a CSU NetID, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We discovered a solution that eliminates this hanging from Microsoft here: <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/3098011\/outlook-2016-and-outlook-2013-hang-when-a-user-tries-to-create-a-profi\">https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/3098011\/outlook-2016-and-outlook-2013-hang-when-a-user-tries-to-create-a-profi<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Essentially, the solution is to create a specific registry DWORD entry as follows.\u00a0 It is important to note that editing the registry is a very sensitive procedure.\u00a0 If you are uncomfortable doing so, please create a <a href=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/help\">CNSIT ticket<\/a>, and we can make an appointment to assist in these steps.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"sbody-num_list\">\n<li>Open Registry Editor &#8211;
