{"id":2773,"date":"2019-01-28T10:58:34","date_gmt":"2019-01-28T17:58:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.natsci.colostate.edu\/cnsit\/?p=2773"},"modified":"2022-04-25T14:40:18","modified_gmt":"2022-04-25T20:40:18","slug":"configure-onedrive-client-for-windows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/configure-onedrive-client-for-windows\/","title":{"rendered":"Configure OneDrive Client for Windows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this article I will walk you through connecting the OneDrive client for Windows 10 to your CSU O365 personal OneDrive space.\u00a0 In Windows 10 (which you should be using) OneDrive should be installed and running on default.\u00a0 If you do not see the OneDrive &#8220;cloud&#8221; icon running in your task bar over by your clock, you may need to start this by searching for &#8220;OneDrive&#8221; using the Cortana search bar by the Windows start button.\u00a0 Once that is running,\u00a0 you will notice the \u201ccloud\u201d icon in the task bar (as shown in the screenshot below).<\/p>\n<p>To start the connection process, you will select this OneDrive \u201ccloud\u201d icon and select the \u201cSign In\u201d button.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2847\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-1-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"359\" height=\"721\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-1-1.png 359w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-1-1-149x300.png 149w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 359px) 100vw, 359px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From there, you will be asked to enter in your username in the form \u201cNetID@colostate.edu\u201d.\u00a0 Once entered, select the \u201cSign in\u201d button to proceed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2801\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"593\" height=\"503\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-2.png 593w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-2-300x254.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 593px) 100vw, 593px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next you will indicate that this account is for a \u201cWork or school\u201d account by selecting the appropriate choice.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2802\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"593\" height=\"503\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-3.png 593w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-3-300x254.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 593px) 100vw, 593px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You will now be asked to enter in your password.\u00a0 This is your CSU NetID password.\u00a0 After entered, select the \u201cSign in\u201d button once again to proceed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2799\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"593\" height=\"503\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-1.png 593w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-1-300x254.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 593px) 100vw, 593px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You will now be asked to choose your OneDrive folder location on the local computer.\u00a0 Unless you have good reason to alter the default, you are advised to keep this in the root of your user profile.\u00a0 The screenshot below shows this dialog.\u00a0 Select the \u201cNext\u201d button to proceed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2803\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"593\" height=\"503\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-5.png 593w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-5-300x254.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 593px) 100vw, 593px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The next dialog window to appear will ask you what OneDrive content you would like available locally using the OneDrive sync client.\u00a0 It is recommended to leave all content selected as shown in the following screenshot.\u00a0 Select the \u201cNext\u201d button to proceed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2804\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-6.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"593\" height=\"503\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-6.png 593w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-6-300x254.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 593px) 100vw, 593px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You should now be all set!\u00a0 Well, almost.\u00a0 Once you &#8220;Next&#8221; your way through the short OneDrive tutorial, you can select the &#8220;Open my OneDrive folder&#8221; button to view your local contents and become familiar with its location on your hard drive.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2806\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-8.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"593\" height=\"503\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-8.png 593w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-8-300x254.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 593px) 100vw, 593px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are a couple of additional settings that are recommended.\u00a0 To confirm and change these you should once again select the OneDrive &#8220;cloud&#8221; icon from the task bar (bottom right, by the clock), select the &#8220;More&#8221; button from the bottom, and choose the &#8220;Settings&#8221; entry from the menu list.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2856\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-9.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"357\" height=\"681\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-9.png 357w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-9-157x300.png 157w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 357px) 100vw, 357px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the popup dialog that appears, make sure you are in the &#8220;Settings&#8221; tab at the top, and check both of the options in this view.\u00a0 The first is to make sure that OneDrive opens automatically when you log in to your computer (this ensures you always have access to current data).\u00a0 The second is to enable the On-Demand functionality.\u00a0 On-Demand is described here and is very useful: <a href=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/onedrive-files-on-demand\">https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/onedrive-files-on-demand<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2808\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-10.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"421\" height=\"470\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-10.png 421w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/onedrive-windows-10-269x300.png 269w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 421px) 100vw, 421px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, you should take full advantage of the On-Demand functionality by running the &#8220;Free up space&#8221; operation for your OneDrive space.\u00a0 To access this option, simply right click on your &#8220;OneDrive &#8211; Colostate&#8221; folder that appears on the right side of an Explorer Window, and click on the &#8220;Free up space&#8221;
