{"id":4315,"date":"2022-03-09T13:02:17","date_gmt":"2022-03-09T20:02:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/?p=4315"},"modified":"2023-07-18T08:19:14","modified_gmt":"2023-07-18T14:19:14","slug":"globalprotect-vpn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/globalprotect-vpn\/","title":{"rendered":"GlobalProtect VPN"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology is an essential tool in today\u2019s online world.&nbsp; Generically, VPNs extend a private network and make it available on a public network.&nbsp; For CSU, when connected to our GlobalProtect VPN, you are able to access on campus resources from an off campus location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CSU\u2019s VPN implementation also uses DUO 2 Factor authentication.&nbsp; When connecting to the VPN, you will be required to provide secondary factor authentication.&nbsp; More information on setting up and using DUO can be found here: <a href=\"https:\/\/it.colostate.edu\/duo-two-factor-authentication\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/it.colostate.edu\/duo-two-factor-authentication<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some additional \u201cBest Practices\u201d for DUO can be learned about with this article: <a href=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/duo-best-practice\">https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/duo-best-practice<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Manual Install<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To install the GlobalProtect VPN you will need to first visit <a href=\"https:\/\/gateway.colostate.edu\">https:\/\/gateway.colostate.edu<\/a>.  You will need to sign in using your CSU NetID credentials and DUO to access this page.  Once you are logged in to this page you will see the following button\/link for &#8220;Download the GlobalProtect Agent&#8221; in the top right of the page.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4316\" width=\"455\" height=\"121\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/image.png 453w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/image-300x79.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 455px) 100vw, 455px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Once the installer is downloaded, you can double click on that and walk through the default installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Setting Up for PC<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the software is installed on your computer you will see this icon in your tray in bottom right hand corner of your screen (pic below)<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"78\" height=\"86\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4320\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>When you first click on the icon in your tray it will ask for a server to connect to and you will want to input &#8220;<strong>gateway.colostate.edu<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that it is pointed to the correct server restart your computer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check to make sure the VPN is pointed to <a href=\"https:\/\/gateway.colostate.edu\/\">gateway.colostate.edu<\/a> after restarting and if so click the connect button<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will launch a sign in screen where you will sign in with your NetID@colostate.edu (pic below)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"736\" height=\"775\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4863\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image-1.png 736w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image-1-285x300.png 285w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 736px) 100vw, 736px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once your NetID@colostate.edu is signed in it will ask you for your password (pic below)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"754\" height=\"787\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4864\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image-2.png 754w, https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/image-2-287x300.png 287w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 754px) 100vw, 754px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After your password has been entered you will be prompted to use DUO 2 factor authentication<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you\u2019ve confirmed through DUO you are connected to CSU servers through GlobalProtect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The icon will look like this in your tray when you\u2019re connected successfully to CSU servers (pic below)<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"99\" height=\"83\" src=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4319\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Setting Up for Mac<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Click the Globe Icon at the top of the screen and enter gateway.colostate.edu for the portal address. If the GlobalProtect icon does not display on your top bar, email us at cnsit@colostate.edu (or, if you are on campus, create a ticket at <a href=\"https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/help\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/cnsit.colostate.edu\/help<\/a>).
