To standardize the naming of institutionally/CNS owned devices within CNSIT, we will utilize the following standardized naming conventions. We are limited to 15 characters in the Windows-verse so we are forced to stick to this limit across all devices for consistency.
One should be able to decipher the following information when looking at the name of a device using these conventions:
Owning Lab/Group/Location: truncated PI/Group/Location name, Up to 6 characters
Date purchased: YYMM, year and month, 4 characters
Device Type: 3 characters
Extra Designation: If device matches another up to this point, increment up
NNNNNNYYMMTTTXX
